Washington, D.C., February 23rd, 1857. 160 Acres, Issued and uncancelled certificate. Issued to Samuel McDowell Reid, Adjutant, Virginia Militia, War of 1812. Signed by Geo. C. Whiting, Commissioner and D.T.Jenks, Printed on bond paper, Large format certificate. Red protector, curved BOUNTY LAND top and ACRES bottom bracket with the 160 in between, Left end, Washington with sword, below portrait of Dobbin, Secretary of the Navy. Right end, Piece, below standing sailor, An exceptionally ornate and very scarce certificate with bright colors and great eye appeal with light ink stains on lower excess margins. A similar example sold in 2011 at Stacks for $2400.
